Albion in May can be amazing. It also can be stormy and cold and the seas can be rough.

Fishing Albion at the beginning of May has become a tradtion. The season is still young, there's hardly anybody out there, and Vermilion Rockfish are on the hunt.

Albion in May is one of my favorite fisheries but it also is a difficult call each year. Weather is simply unpredictable and ranges from warm and sunny to stormy and freezing cold. If you decide to paddle through the Albion Canyon and out to open ocean this early in the season you need to come prepared. The odds are that there's nobody to help you should you run into trouble.

Alone outside the Albion Cove.
My specialty...
...the Vermilion Rockfish.
An equation: Kayak + Paddle + Octopus = Vermilion Rockfish.
