Reverse Sweep Roll With Paddle Float
Rolling a sea kayak on the shores of Alameda.

I took my vintage Pintail to the shores of Alameda for another crack at the reverse sweep roll.

In order to get a better feel for the movement of going under the back deck and the forward finish I decided that for this session I would leave my Greenland sticks under the bungees and take out a paddle float instead.

Reverse sweep roll with paddle float.

After a attempting and finishing a good dozen reverse sweeps with paddle float in a row I think that I pretty much have it down. My reverse sweep with a Greenland paddle still is a little shaky, though. One problem is that I tend to lose seating position in the Pintail and need to concentrate on squeezing my thighs firmly against the hull and under the deck (this boat doesn't have thigh and/or foot braces to hold you in your seat, you have to go full Greenland-style and squeeze yourself under the deck).

Eventually the Pintail will run this maneouver without trouble. It's just a matter of practice. The goal is to use less force, more technique and staying completely relaxed throughout the roll.
